Does anybody know of a method of making curved cylinders?  It'd be very
useful in furniture as well as other things -- thanks.

Well, there are a few different ways- 1. Bezier Patches> Pros: Inhouse.
Just click, and edit. Cons: Take FOREVER to parse(I had a seen, exported
from sPatch, took 20 minutes to parse!)2. STOMP 3D- Extrude along spline
path function is awsome. Great for piping, etc. Pros: Great objects!
Supports NURBS. Cons:Java Based, so you have to download that. And you have
to export and convert it a couple times. 3. INC files: Don't know of the
URLs for any. Pros: Work in POV- Ray. Cons: Works in POV-Ray(and only
pov-ray) No MOray support.

Well, to state the blindingly obvious ( >:-) ), torii are the way to go,
for most things. Now, you'll never get torii in the shapes you want, but
90% of the time, some scaling, some clipping, and some fiddling will get
you what you're looking for. And, as opposed to nurms, and patches, and so
forth, it's very fast, and very easy....

  You can use Ron Parker's Superpatch unofficial build of POV-Ray, which
incorporates Jochen Lippert's Sphere Sweeps patch. You can 'cap' the ends of
the sweeps with cylinders to make the sweep appear as a continuously curved
cylinder. Very useful for furniture.

HOWEVER.. There IS a way to make it easy. Set a number of spheres, with the
radius you want, at the points you want. Name them all something that is
easy to search for, like "SphereSweepUnit". Then, in the pov-ray 3.1 editor
(win95) do a search for each instance, and copy them into a sphere_sweep
statement. It'll give you the points you want... at a minimum of tweaking...

"cylinder" preset option in its "Superquadric parameters" box.  Scale as you
please:)

Hmm, no, I think he was looking for "curved" cylinders, not "rounded" ones
(which also could be created via the new plug-in element Rounded Disc or
what it is called, but then, that doesn't seem to be what he is looking
for...)
