Hi,
Since it was suggested in the POV-Ray Google Trends discussion thread by several
persons, and even though it doesn't feel right, I post the default Blender file
for POV-Ray users who want to learn Blender in this section (hoping we will one
day have a Blender section or that this one will include the software name in
its title along Moray)

This file has been requested in the above discussion. You can make it the
default file right after opening it by pressing CTRL+U and saving the defaults.

It is oriented to texture writing with a big text file open so that you don't
feel lost when coming from POV background without the habit of a GUI.

The 3D view can be rotated with middle mouse, and returned to Camera by Numpad 0
The render is launched with F12.
Any shortcut will act depending on the window currently under the mouse.

Try to change the text and hit F12 to see if this UI layout is ok for you to
develop textures. Otherwise, please, report back any change you would want to
see so you can start learning Blender with our help.
A copy of the file is also temporarily hosted here for 5 months :
http://pasteall.org/blend/index.php?id=44655

Thanks for your attention and enjoy!

Deep thoughts LanuHum (I don't understand what you mean).
I am using the file as default and I like the layout.

One* question. Previously I changed the Blender materials in Povray I am
not familiar with Blender materials and textures.

Does the PovRay material file require a specific name?
Can you have multiple PovRay material files in Blender?
Did you write a module to use nodes similar to Cycles? I liked the idea
of nodes as it seems more user friendly. If you did not, please don't
rush off and do it. It is only a question.

* Never was good at counting. :)

Mr has complete control over this version exporter.
I reminded him about your question.
Wait for his response.

FYI - I've updated the POV-Ray Wikipedia page with respect the blender
interface efforts. I pointed folks to:

https://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Extensions:2.6/Py/Scripts/Render/POV-Ray

If there is a better introduction page, please let me know.

I didn't see a specific reference to this POV specific workspace page on
that opening page - perhaps one there too would be good?

All good questions because there are answers :-)
First you don't have to write povray textures, but you can, by typing them in
the text editor and checking for it to be included

You can name the povray texture whatever you want, provided you use the name
exactly as declared in the customPOV material replacement field.

You can either delare all materials one after the other in the same text file,
or use several text files all checked to be included. In theory it doesn't
matter (generally for convenience I declare them in the same text window, so
other use is less tested)

LanuHum wrote the Nodes system for POV-Ray only in his version of the exporter.
Someone could try and merge it into the official exporter if needed.

Happy new year!

Thanks, this is the best entry point indeed !
I think it should also be mentioned into POVRay wiki itself if you guys agree.

Maybe if I can I will add the pov workspace file to blender wiki though I'm not
sure they will accept one more attachment other than images.

Great! I did not notice that checkbox. [Add as POV code]

I will be stealing code from all over. ;-)

I could test this myself but busy, busy, busy and I just thought of it.
Q. Would writing something like #include
"C:\Users\Stephen\Documents\POV-Ray\v3.7\include\colors.inc". Allow me
to use the entries in that file?

> LanuHum wrote the Nodes system for POV-Ray only in his version of the exporter.

I feared that would be the case.

Last question.
Are there any plans to incorporate the game engine or Bullet Physics
into the PovRay exporter?

My guess is that LanuHum is the man to ask. ;-)

You can start here:

Indeed it should

Bullet is already in Blender available to the whole animation system, not only
game engine, since Aligorith's summer of code a few years ago ! So Anything you
do with it there will be rendered along normally, or should be All blender
features like fluids, smoke, etc. should render normally by now, unless it's
broken and no one reported it...

The workspace has been added to Wiki under "POV-Ray centric default workspace"
title, thanks for the suggestion :
