I don't have metr75.ttf, but I do have Metrostyle Extended Font
metr53.ttf which exhibits the same problem.

I think that "Extended" bit is to do with the fact that it's a unicode
font, and you have to tell POVRay to use a unicode charset instead of
ascii when using such a font. Like this:

global_settings {
  charset utf8
}
