Proposed Change to IRTC Rules (Message 1 to 8 of 8)

I would like to propose one simple change to the IRTC animation rules.
Could the text files please say how long the animation is supposed to run?

There are a few this round that I suspect aren't running their full
length, and with a slower internet connection I would like to avoid
downloading an animation twice if I can help it at all.

Thanks,

I once firebombed the winning entry in its score because I thought the first
7 seconds made a really stupid plot. (It was about a minute long).

A few rounds back I had a similar problem, and I suggested that the script
that analyses each entry when it is submitted should automatically add the
length of the movie in frames to the end of the text file.

I like that idea, but not at the end of the text file, rather in
the header part.

One thing I would personally like to see is the renderer used in the
thumbnails page (in both animations and stills). Currently it's a real bother
to have to always open the text file to see which renderer was used. It's also
next to impossible to look at all the images made with a certain renderer (eg.
if I want to see all images made by Maya).

Of course some people may object to this (perhaps even strongly), but it's
just my personal opinion.

I prefer to not know what renderer was used. I handicap based on the
tools used, and that's easier to do in a fair way if I don't know what
those tools are.

I'm guilty of the same thing. I have no idea how difficult it is to so
something in other programs, so I have a hard time with the technical score.

As a general rule, I give a technical score based on how natural the
animation is, whether the objects that join together do so smoothly,
and whether there are any discontinuities in the animation. I give
a score of 1 to 20. I then check to see what modeler was used. If
the entrant specifies no modeler, I leave the score as is. If a
shareware modeler was specified, I factor the score down a bit, and
if a commercial modeler was used, I factor the score down a bit more.

Regards,
John
