The texture in that scene is nothing special, it's either a plain color 
pigment or a large scale agate pattern with a simple diffuse finish.

The fancy part of this scene only the geometry - creating this is quite 
difficult and rendering requires a lot of patience.  This does not mean 
you should not try it - basic isosurface techniques are described in the 
docs and if you can read german ;-) you can find a detailed tutorial in 
c't magazine, issue 20/03.
