Add some more randomness to them...give them a less plain texture for 
the outer parts(with little globules and organelles inside) and make it 
so they aren't all pointing in the same direction(the black spots all 
seem to be on the left side of the nucleus). Add some assorted debris in 
their environment, maybe a couple different kinds of cells. Even just 
one "misfit" would add interest. The suggestion for refraction was good, 
but there doesn't seem much for them to refract. Maybe make a more 
prominent cell wall.
