I don't know if there is a wire macro, but MegaPOV has a sphere_sweep 
object that might be useful for this(although it can be slow), and I 
believe there is a wire isosurface function included in the isosurface 
patch, but I rarely use the built in functions so I don't know for sure.

A wire macro would be pretty easy to make using the spline patch. If you 
want to use official POV, there are a few spline include files out there.
