Actually, it *is* an atmospheric effect, similar to the halo you see 
around lights in fog. Otherwise, they wouldn't reflect or be visible 
behind transparent objects. :-)

I am thinking of a lens flare effect though...it would mostly be like a 
glow, but with slightly different behavior and more flare-like features. 
Or maybe I'll just do a lens flare post_process filter...that might 
allow much more realistic flares.
