No.  The star flares are generated by a separate macro and have no effect 
on the nebula cloud.

The nebula is just a four-layer texture mapped to a sphere.  The stars are 
a three-layer texture (one layer per star) mapped on another sphere.  The 
whole thing renders at 800x600 in about 40 seconds on my P3-866.

I've attached a new image which I made after adding some more features to 
the plugin.  This one took about 3 mins to render at 640x480 on my Celeron 
400.  Note that many of the color variations are independant of the main 
nebula pattern--this adds considerably to the quality in closeup shots.
