Diamonds are definitely *not* forever.

All you need to do is heat one up in a bunsen burner flame until it 
starts glowing, then drop it into liquid Oxygen... :)

It skitters around, and gets smaller and smaller.  Mind you it's a 
remarkably expensive way to generate CO2 <grin>
