Ross,
Here is some basic settings and you can tweek them from here to get what you
want. Create a sphere and make it hollow. Next open your texture editor and
click on create and make a standard texture. Next right click the texture
and add pigment and right click again and add halo. Now right click the
pigment and choose solid color then go to the right and set trans to 1. What
you just did is make the surface of you sphere clear so that you can see the
halo. Next click on halo and set the following parameters up - type=emiting,
scattering model=isotropic, function=linear, mapping=spherical and
samples=20 the other settings shuold be fine to start with. As far as the
color map go's put in the colors you want and add some more so you at least
have 4
colors in it. Next the two outside colors on the map should be set to 1 on
the trans. This will give you a nice soft edge. Now right click on halo and
add noise and transformation modifiers. On the noise set the turbulance to 1
and the frequency to 2, the other settings are ok. Then on the
transformation set the scaling of x,y and z to .8 - Now you can click the
preview and see your halo. These are settings that I like so try your own
and check out the POV-ray docs for some real good info on halos.
