After solving to my satisfaction the 'shooting rays' problem I had, I
have now changed the /unplanned/ urbanism macro in such a way that house
faces are oriented to the nearest street (with some small randomness
added). This results in a more believable aspect of the city blocks.
The code can be found in p.b.s-f of course.
