If you recognize it's a joke, you don't need to take offense. If you take

It does in the USA. The problem is more that the ones who *do* understand it 
are told they're wrong by those who think they understand it. I.e., it's not 
just "understand" vs "don't understand." It's a matter of "our official 
position is that the scientific truth is wrong."
