Because at first they gave their towns names like "El Pueblo de Nostra 
Senora, La Reina De Los Angeles De Porciuncula" it quickly got to 
complicated...

Also, as a Non-United Statian American, I'd like to point out that 
America is a continent, not a country.  Don't lump us as with these
