nice. the spherical grains didn't quite work for me either,
possibly also because they appear detached from the ground,
as if someone just tried to salt the ball. Maybe burying
them into the ground randomly helps?

Also the contrast between the perfect sphere and the grimey
grooves is very strong. Maybe add some slight scratches and
dustiness to the base texture?
