The notification API has been around for several years now.
As for ACLs, it depends on the tools. I've seen proper ACLs overlaid on
*nix filesystems for several years now (as well) and it works properly.
Sometimes you have to map the bitmask rights to something in the new ACL
filesystem, but having MAC (ie, mandatory access controls) can certainly
help enforce permissions that would otherwise not be done.
