They are usefull when using sampling method 1 and 2. Useless, time consuming, 
and can cause some artefacts with the default method 3. Method 3 is the default 
since version 3.5. Before that, only method 1 was available.

Also, the syntax "samples Value1, Value2" is a left over of method 1 and 2. With 
method 3, Value2 is always ignored.

Now, samples must be set to at least 3.
intervals default's to 1, and should be left alone.
