That's not a catapult but a trebuchet. Same purpose but completely different 
principle!
A catapult use tortional or flexing (bow like part) force.
A trebuchet, as in the clip, use counterweight.
Usualy, a trebuchet have greater range and can trow heavier projectils, but 
takes longer to reload and fire. It also frequently have poorer acuracy.
