about different lighting: yes for better visibility, no because of realism. 
Watch the real space photos: the contrast values in space are very high, 
beside the earth - black is blacker and white is whiter.

I wanted with full intention that parts of the ship are not really visible 
but only to guess based on the ship's many lights.
