What red? I see none in the image.

If you're referring to scattering's behaviour that the opposite color will
appear in the "shadowed" region of the media, then here's my approach: use
scattering without any extinction whatsoever, and add an absorption media
into the same media{}-statement. This way, you can influence the color
better.
