Perhaps, but this would force a fixed position for some light source.
Flat is nice, because the colors exist "as is" instead of "as is when
hanging near a certain window" or "as is under a specific light source".
I wanted to get away from the airy feeling of cg color work I have seen.
I did some airy stuff for window manager logos. The logos ended up on a
Wiki somewhere titled (not by me) "Aqua" and "Green Illumination"
(blech). I want to define colors using actual pigment rather than light.
If I were going to use any of these pigment combinations in a "real"
image, the image would definitely be "flat".
