You can see even the cleanest and brightest glass because it reflects
and refracts light.
Making the glass refract makes its shape obvious by the way in which
it distorts the background. Making it reflecting makes its surface shapes
quite evident. And it's quite photorealistic as well, naturally.
If the glass object has round shapes, then specular highlights are a must.
(Naturally if it's reflecting, there should be something in the
surroundings for it to reflect; a glass object in an empty black space
can't reflect anything.)
