Is this an allegory of the deified George W. Bush rising above
the masses and causing them to rise up through his transformational powers?

One thing that you might want to try is including something
above the shiny objects that they can reflect.  Some interesting
effects can be created with a plane or sphere outside of camera
view with a high-contrast checker or other pattern.
