Very smart! Using the dust specks on my monitor as Stars...

The only thing I would add is that at first glance I thought that the laser
was coming from behind camera and piercing the ship. I think you should
'cap' the beam before it leaves the frame, or add another one coming up from
the planet that hasn't reached the ship yet.

Even a missile coming up toward the ship might fix this. Or maybe make
debris flying out along the beam's path. Even better, make the beam partly
obscured by the hull of the ship.

Also I think the hull of the ship needs some little windows to give it a
sense of scale. I can't tell if it's a giant interstellar generation ship
or a "corvette". Perhaps some small strike craft could help this.

That said...

Excellent planet - great laser beam - I've tried lasers before and I know it
can take days of tweaking.
