DivX is in no way lossless. You need a rather large bitrate in order
to get such high quality that artifacts are not seen.
However, the advantage of DivX (and every MPEG-4 codec in general) is
that you need a whole lot less bitrate to get a good-quality image than
with MPEG-1.
