yes, my area light is as follows
light_source {
color rgb <1,1,1>
area_light <1, 0, 0>, <0, 1, 0>, 7, 7
    adaptive 1
    jitter
}

i may up the size_1 and size_2 if i render it again, like you said. the back
wall is kind of grainy.

maybe i was just thinking wrong about how light is emitted from an area
light. who am i to question a raytracer though?!
