well, maybe you are sticked to truespace, but there are some more dedicated
to POV whitch export directly to .POV and manage POV primitives as lathes
which are rotational sweeps with no facet at all with a very light format
( Pov makes the sweep process , you just provide some control points
coordinates)
You can try to tweak your exported POV file to built a lathe that'll give
the same shape, but gently smooth at low weight.

If you run under windows, Moray http://www.stmuc.com/moray/ is a good
shareware modeler dedicated to POV.
You have also blender which runs under linux or win ( but less sticked to
pov as it doesn't know POV's primitives)
