For the hands. I would suggest plotting several splines to form an
interesting hand shape and then using sphere_sweep to draw the hand.
sphere_sweep is best suited to this purpose, but you can use cylinders or my
cheap_sweep when possible to speed up render time. Anyway, after you have a
nice curvy hand shape, flatten it and you've got your hand.
For the broken glass. I would use trace against a semi-circle to make
several mesh pieces that will fit together like a puzzle to form your
crystal. You can then manipulate the pieces however you wish.
