This sounds like your keys get stuck and repeat the command over and over.  As
you know, if you use a keyboard command in a menu, the menu title which
contains the item with the corresponding command gets activated for a short
time.  So if you either have a wrong key repeat setting of some other reason
why the system thinks the key is still pressed you will see this problem.  It
might also be some weird extension that messes around with your system.
However, one thing is for sure and that is that it cannot be a problem in
POV-Ray because the menu bar is handled by the operating system.
