  This may give more what you want:

                pigment{  red 0.9 green 0.9 blue 1.0 filter 0.9 }

                hollow on
                interior {   fade_distance 10 fade_power 2
                                fade_color <0, 0, 1>
                         }

  However, I'm not sure how the fade_color should work in this case.
