I'm planning on entering the fantasy round of the IRTC, so I've been doing a few
test renders of elements that I might bring together in a scene. This is the
latest and IMO the best, though I might post some of the others if anyone's
interested. It's also the slowest to render, this image took my PIII 550 over 20
hours! Well, this is what happens when you turn the accuracy of media up too
high :)
The cloud is an isosurface filled with a media of constant density. The sky
colour is also a media, which lends a nice blue tone to the darker bits of the
clouds. I've pulled an interesting trick with the cloud, where I actually have
an exact duplicate in the same place, but casting no shadow. This increases the
opacity without darkening the clouds, and was a last resort after adjusting the
lighting and absorption failed to give the desired effect.
I think it's quite realistic, but what do you think?
