Nothing that will "in" POV-Ray as of version 3.1g, although MegaPoV does
have a 'hf_height_at' and 'trace' and version 3.5 will have the trace at
least.  Both ways make it possible to retrieve a point (vector) on the
surface.
I have a feeling you wouldn't get exactly perfect positions but close enough
perhaps.
