Eric,
On my site there is a tutorial called "Saga of the Leaf". The author
(EndorWiggens) makes a falling leaf animation, with wind effects and
collision detection. Maybe the source will have some info that will aid you.

once you are past the enter page, select [Tutorials][POV Custom] towards the
upper left of the screen. Click the image to open the tutorial.
