I just downloaded Chris Colefax's city include file. It is amazing at what
it can do. This include would work well with my idea for the next IRTC
topic. I may actually use it. There would have been a time when I would
have refused to use such a ready-made object. The reasons included a
literal view of the IRTC requirement for stuff to be non "pre-existing" :
I thought you had to (ought to) make everything up from scratch yourself
during that time period. It also may have been an issue of personal
preference, in how much pride I could take in the work when it was done.
It may have been based on a perception that it wasn't "art" or
"sportsmanly" if one used a 3ds plugin or even someone else's
include--kind of like turning in clip art to a vector art contest. I also
was convinced that IRTC was ultimately a portfolio dump for pre-existing
work, with only a few percent of the violators ever getting caught. I
also perhaps had the crazy idea that I could get a second job at 3D and
ought to show in every entry what I could to from scratch: who doesn't
dream in this way?
These feelings perhaps prompted some ungentlemanly comments in IRTC
voting/ forums over the years, for which I apologize to my friends.
It also prompted the idea of "JFK". I thought it would be something that
everyone would have to do from scratch. I'm to blame for that one. ;-p
It's in the database! (see
