Usually RMF is very smooth between the ridges, of course it's possible that you
used very extreme parameters.  

Here is an example i used sometime:

function{"ridgedMF",<0.1, 3.0, 7, 0.7, 0.7>}  

You could add an additional roughness function to the formula.
