The striping is probably from the spiral pattern photons are mapped out
from, that's my guestimation.
Not very long really.  About 3 minutes on this 500MHz machine for those 300
by 300 pixel renders, and that includes photon calculating.
So far I've seen that it's closer to 5 minutes, or more, if better settings
are used.  But not slow at all.  Dare I say fast.
