Well what I was saying before was that the pattern showing in his spiral
normal is reminiscent of a radial texture_map having other pattern types in
that.  A 'sine_wave' and 'frequency' of a sufficient number could probably
mimic the spiral normal.  But then nothing except in a very faked way,
likewise with image mapping.
