My research lab NEVER looked this clean!  In part because you're missing
stains from the ammonium iodide contact explosive that I used to make and
put near the professors office doors.

Was it your intent for the tiles to look as though they are pieces of rubber
matting cut into squares and placed upon a marble lab bench top?  I would
concur with the prior opinion that the tiles need to be less perfectly
regular and they need to be embedded in the table top with grout between
each tile.  The grout edges should be somewhat irregular where they meet the
edges of the tiles.
