The only thing scarier than being in that light house would be to tree climb in
that cliff-edge tree. Or maybe it would be to rock-climb up that cliff (I
wouldn't do it anyhow).
Looks like it could make for a great scene. That water just isn't looking
anything like water to me for some reason, perhaps the grainy appearance is why,
not sure, but out of all the different waters I've seen this one isn't making me
think it could be water. Almost strange in that.
The lack of reflections of the sky maybe? Or that it might be opaque instead of
somewhat clear down to a certain depth? Don't know why that is.
Anyway, the ground fog suggestion is what you need most to get rid of the
perfectly lined horizon alright. The media clouds is something I haven't done
much of, so I'm no help there. And I haven't been yet have I? Hmmm.
The lighting is also throwing me off, it appears to have sunlight coming from
far left low in the sky and it's very weak almost like extra strong moonlight.
If you have a sky_sphere in use there that might be the reason for the odd look
to that since it can only be fully ambient with no change according to light
source position. If a regular sphere is used instead then that can be brighter
nearer the light if ambient 1 isn't used in the finish. And if media is going
to be used I think you might be better off without sky_sphere in there.
Back to the water. Something that can be good is to use a texture_map, large
scale bozo for example, containing a few different water textures in it to
signify varying surface perturbations over a large area. Wind and no wind for
instance.

| Well, its been a while since I have posted, and I haven't been able to
| keep up as much with the goings on in the tracing community as I would
| like. But thats how life goes sometimes.
|
| This is my most recent attempt at photo-realistic raytracing. As you can
| see, lighthouse on the right open sea on the left. I am pretty satisfied
| with the lighthouse/cliff portion of the scene, but the rest of the
| scene seems to be leaving something to be desired. I think that its
| because there is so much open space, but Im not sure. I was thinking
| about putting the shape of a sailboat out there to break things up a
| bit.
|
| Another thing that bothers me about the image is the clean line between
| the ocean and the sky. It seems too artificial. And could soemone point
| me in the right direction of some good cloud tutorials. I have seen
| several scroll by on the newsreader in the past months, but havent paid
| close enough attention to my own tracing needs to know that I wanted
| them. I think that I saw something a while back about media method 3
| with mega-pov. The images that I saw with that is where I was hoping to
| head with the sky in this image.
|
| Questions, comments?
