I personaly have had some success in using webding fonts with POV-Ray
but since these were downloaded from the net I have no idea how they
were created and what character encoding was used in their creation.

Ooops ! I just remembered that my success at using these types of
fonts came with using a font utility called Elefont which takes your
font and lets you create a 3D object exportable as a mesh of triangles
or as a .dxf file. You can use 3DWin to convert from dxf to a format
that Moray can use.

You can get elefont here: http://www.armanisoft.ch/

It has a strange interface but some of the tools it offers are pretty nice.

I did just try downloading the UniPatch and had no problems opening
it on my system using winzip. If you would like more detailed info
on font creation and using unicode fonts with POV-Ray I suggest you
contact Jon Cruz through email. He loves talking about them and seems
to be our resident expert on this subject.
