Yes, of course! You can try "Scene > Select Texture" in that object,
then you'll get a representation of the gradient in green lines which
can be scaled so that it fits your heightfield. I had this problem
too, but it's quite simple. And no hand-tweaking! :-)
But you should use a texture map ("Material Editor -> Create ->
Texture Map"), and not a map of pigments and normals, as this trick
won't work with them.
And you'll have to turn on display of textures (it is turned on by
default, I think.)
