No. No need for pre-formatted text. Just follow the HTML specs and don't
try to do pixel-accurate tweaks.

All people doing webpages should be familiar with http://www.htmlhelp.org/

So, probably what you need is to not guess on the text, but to add the <BR
CLEAR=ALL> in the proper places.

Then you can go and and <CODE> around your samples, and <BR> in at each
EOL.

Whatever you use for HTML, it's fairly easy to setup some macro or sed
script to HTML-ify your code.
