Don't know if scaling the granite will do the trick? The dust in the beam looks
to "cloudy". Maybe take the media from your first pic, make it less dense so you
just see it. Then add a patch of dust here and there in the beams. A little bit
more near the floor and less near the ceiling.
If you stick to scaling the granite, try a non uniform scaling so you get a
feeling of horizontal layers.

The boxes are ok.
The contrast of the picture does not feel right, the floor is to gray and the
far away background is not black. High ambient?
Do you want to keep it pure B&W? I'd suggest a very little bit of colour
contrast, something like gray+0.05 blue for the floor and pillars and white-0.05
blue for the light. It's important that you don't see that there is colour in
it, but only feel it.
Radiosity would be good here, but you'll have to use the slooow non-contained
media.
Just my ideas, it's your picture, I like it and am looking forward to what it
wil become.
