Yes, I used RANDOM to do it.

The coppery Skin is a metal texture, and I modified the Rusty_Iron(?) texture
to overlay on it.  I hate perfectly clean spacecraft.

But that's a great idea.  I was originally planning to put millions
of small detail objects on the surface.  I may still.  but converting
to a bump map may do the trick.
