I know this is a little old, but I just subscribed to the
groups on the POV-Org server. I have a PII 350 MHz and got
the following:

parsed   - 27 sec
rendered - 1600 x 1200 1m 31sec

I would say: F*ck the Alpha... ;-)
Err, or did you use heavy antialiasing?
