Only the above, AFAIK, i.e:
Edit menu-> Application Preferences -> some tab other than
'General' -> Hold down the option key and choose the 'General' tab
-> Turn on 'preemptive threading' -> close the prefs window -> quit
POV-Ray -> Re-launch POV-Ray.
