I see that some people are having the same issues as I getting
animations to work in vista. Like the others here I cannot get
animations to work - the pov executes normally (and produces one frame),
but as soon as I try to run the .ini file things lock up and no
rendering occurs. I have tried what others have recommended here
(installing povray outside of program files, and running in XP
compatibility mode), and I am still getting lockups.

The most frustrating part is that these animations rendered fine on my
old XP box, and despite the fact that nothing has changed, no longer render.

Any ideas?

Bryan

Reinstall POV-Ray, somewhere not in C:\Program files. Or better, get rid
of Vista.

Reinstalling did not work. Reinstall was a little odd; despite removing
the old povray, and deleting the povray folder from "program files", the
newly installed povray somehow "remembered" my last rendered files,
making me think that something was missed during uninstall.
Unfortunately vista has to stay (work computer). Any other ideas?

Thanx

Bryan

Windows registry.

yes, don't render at work... if you can! :P

a) upgrade to XP.

b) failing that, wait a bit until I release a version of POVWIN beta 3.7
that uses installshield (rather than the ancient installer we have now)
and furthermore is modified to avoid use of the traditional INI file.

c) once that is done and seen to work, I will probably back-port those
   changes to 3.6.

I found an alternative root - I resurrected my linux-on-USB system and
just load ubuntu for povray stuff. Works pretty well, although I'm
still trying to decide which pov editor to use...
