PoPOV - Patching of POV - is supposed to collect all reasonably patches
included in patches repository. Currently available for DOS and Windows
consoles but other platforms planned. Sample files attached. Go download:
http://abx.art.pl/pov/popov/
Any feedback ?
(AFAIK, sites from my host currently moves between servers so there can be
some temporary breaks in working, sorry)

Citing from the page:
"push any responsibility for bad working to every one named Popov involved
in POV communiuty ;-)"
- i guess Peter will be 'not amused' ;-)
"Enviroment for DOS compilation under DJGPP 2.3 with GCC 3.2 compiler
including correct 8.3 names for all files from POV and involved libraries"
- sounds like an awful lot of work introducing nothing but incompatibility
with other POV-Ray versions. I would strongly suggest you switch to a
more decent system - this would simplify things for both you and others
(when possibly using source files from you in their own compilations).
Apart from that it looks nice.

No. The only file in POV-Ray necessary to have short name was benchmark.cpp.
Not a big deal. And only library not compatible with 8.3 filenames was libtiff
so not a big deal either. I don't plan to distribute sources of libraries so
only incompatibility can be on mentioned benchmark.cpp. Further djgpp
compilations works fine with long filenames on Win 95/98 but fails on NT
becouse of NT's implementation of shell.

Well, I on NT4 I will prepare multiplatform compilations. Just have to
complete setup of whole multicompiler enviroment. I wanted to build shared
tree for sources and taht's why mentioned note in "What's new".

Thanks. Have you tried it ?

As I've said quite a lot of times, Po-POV means "more POV" in
Bulgarian, so I think the name fits the project well. In the spirit of
POV-Ray, I will not require royalties on my or my grand-grandfather's
behalf :)

No, since i have no use for a dos version the source code would be much
more useful for me.

I will release it soon.
BTW: Your recent post in povray.programming reminded me about issue not listed
in my "to do" but already concerned - documentation. You have started such
discussion some time ago. There is no discussion what format for sample files:
POV SDL. There is no discussion what format for source files: C++. But what
format for documentation ?

Ingo suggested docbook which seems a good idea, but since i don't know
much about it and also don't have the time to do much research in that
concern right now i did not pursue it any further. If anyone can supply a
framework for this including a small tutorial how one can document own
patches this would be really great. I think Meal (from the french POV
community) already did some work in that concern.
