That makes me ashamed to be an American.
Maybe it's time to start a march for "death to the intolerant". Of
course, to do so, you'd have to be intolerant of intolerance, which is a
bit of a problem....

Why? The problem isn't that they're American (after all, the article
states that many Ugandans view homosexuality as a Western import,
meaning it comes from America, too), but rather that they're intolerant
hate-mongers.

Many years ago, I had a brother-in-law who stated, at a family gathering,
that, "AIDS is a punishment sent by God to kill <gay people>" (ed. euphemism
employed). I told him he needed to get down on his knees and pray with all
his might that God didn't send a disease to kill the terminally stupid,
'cause he was first on the list.
Funny, but he and I never got along. Nor did I get along with his sister,
thus he's a former brother-in-law, but that's another story.
My daughter and her wife are often amused by this story.

In the heat of the moment, my immediate reaction was "Americans pushing
their belief systems on others without understanding the dynamics of the
situation" - it's something that large parts of the population do here;
in this case, it's pushing an ideology to the extreme of causing the
deaths of people.
It is perhaps an overgeneralization (or indeed, a generalization based on
a stereotype, which isn't a good thing either), but it is how I felt upon
reading that article. Well, that and physically ill.

When the tornado hit Salt Lake City about 10 years ago, we had a guy who
came and did the chimney work (an actual chimney sweep) who we had worked
with for several years. He visited shortly after the tornado, and
proceeded to explain to my wife how the tornado was God's vengeance
against gays (it touched down near a gay bar in SLC). He declared
himself "born-again" during his little speech.
My wife very calmly explained that (1) this was very offensive and
unprofessional of him, (2) that her gay brother would have a thing or two
to say about it, (3) that if that was God's vengeance, there's an irony
that He *missed* (but instead hit a construction crane near Temple Square
- where the new LDS Conference Center was being built) - and folded it in
half *while it was manned*, and most importantly (4) that we would be
seeking a new contractor to perform the services he had performed for us
for several years.

There is some twit named Barb that posts on a sight called

babbling about how unfair ***every*** case of religious imposition on
the rest of us is, to her religion, always telling people to move to
China, if they don't like prayers shoved in their faces, denies *every*
cases of Christian bigotry, fear mongering, or terror (if she bothers to
post on articles about those at all), but always has a cherry, "See,
them evil Muslims are killing poor innocent Christians again!", for
every other occasion. Here take on this was, as usual, "It can't be what
these poor Christians from the US intended, but at least they are doing
something about those evil gays!"
Interestingly, she is literally the lone, and rabid, wolf among the rest
of the farm animals there (for the most part). Latest whine from her
was, "How dare a soldier complain about being forced to attend 3
separate, government sanctioned, sectarian prayers, on returning from
Iraq!" Sigh... The only good thing about it seems to be that a lot of
people are getting damn fed up about all of it, and these people seem to
be completely fracking clueless that the majority of Americans hate what
they have done to everything from our reputation, to health care reform,
to just about everything else that actually has value (but not the
*values* that the wacko idiots think they should have).
