Sad. The personal experience is from working in a zoo.
Thinks! Is that not where I met you?
No it couldn't have been, it was abroad.

and my personal experience would disagree. True, the comic makes it a bit
brighter and shinier, but then that isn't what hair looks like either. :-)

I seem to remember the baby giraffe's tongue (4 weeks old) was very pointed,
like a spear point. It was over 10 years ago but still a vivid memory.

It's pretty pointy, but given the tongue itself is a foot or more long, it's
hard to say whether it's pointy per se.

Of course, the really worrying thing about a giraffe is that it can
apparently eat bushes encrusted with murderous spines without any injury...

I had the good fortune (I think) to be able stand beside it and stroke it. It
had been rejected by its mother and was being hand reared by the zoo keepers.
Interesting fact, the keeper who was acting as "mother" was only four foot ten
with her hands in the air and had to stand on a bale of hay to feed it. Also its
eyes were the biggest brownest eyes that I have ever seen.
Aww! :)

The tongues are actually exceptionally slimey. :-) Or maybe that was just
because they were drooling because we were feeding them.

That's because they use their tongues to pick the leaves, much like you
could pick berries off a holy bush without too much trouble.

Question: Do giraffes have stereo vision?
